Barriston's municipal law practice group has deep roots, having practiced municipal law since 1948, when past partner, Osmond J. Rowe Q.C. began serving as Town Solicitor for the Town of Barrie.

Although much has changed since 1948, our reputation for excellent service has been a continuous thread. It is now 2016 and to continue providing excellent service in the age of the internet we think it necessary to add blogging to our areas of expertise. Municipal Matters will provide municipal law-related information to clients, colleagues, and general information-seekers in an accessible format.

Municipal Matters is brought to you by the municipal law practice group of Barriston LLP. It will feature posts curated by group effort, but frequent contributions from Aynsley Anderson and Lauren Martin can be expected. Aynsley Anderson is an associate working in Barriston’s Collingwood office. Aynsley’s litigation practice consists of land use planning litigation and advice, advocating for clients at the Ontario Municipal Board and regularly appearing before all levels of court in Ontario as well. As an active member of the planning community, Aynsley is intimately familiar with the latest trends in planning policy. A overview of her recent work include development approvals, normal farm practices, upper-tier official plan appeals, aggregates, renewable energy approval litigation, and enforcing Building Code Act orders.

Lauren Martin is an associate working in Barriston’s Bracebridge office on the solicitor’s side of things. Lauren spends her time drafting and reviewing agreements relating to municipal land ownership, land interests, and land development. She also provides general advice to municipal clients on an ever-evolving variety of matters. Some of her recent opinions include advice relating to encroachments on municipal lands, dam ownership and decommissioning, hydro easements, road and access issues, and renewable energy projects under the Green Energy Act.
